I was outside with Z watching her play.
It was super sunny & hot out. The perfect kind of day. The kind of day where the sun feels almost excessive, but somehow that makes everything feel even more alive.
She smiled so big & said...
“I love this world.”
& then she just carried on in her whimsy.
Playing. Exploring. Existing.
As if she had just stated the most obvious truth in the world.
I love this world.
It reminded me that gratitude is a feeling that even a child can experience & express without having to be taught how to intellectualize it.
She wasn't listing all the things she was grateful for.
She just felt it.
& she said it.
It made me think about how often I forget to express my own gratitude simply because I've become accustomed to the things that once felt miraculous.
I love this world too.
I love people.
I love taking walks & staring at the moon.
I love art & pushing the needle.
I love creating something from nothing.
I love the feeling of an idea becoming real.
I really love waking up & feeling freedom.
I love the daily rituals & little schedules I create for myself.
I love choosing what my days look like.
I love the simple things we tend to take for granted because we're accustomed to them.
Waking up.
Sunlight.
A breeze.
A good song.
A conversation that makes you think.
Laughing until your stomach hurts.
Watching your child discover the world.
Having somewhere to go.
Having nowhere to go.
Being able to walk outside & simply exist beneath the sky.
Maybe gratitude isn't always this grand, profound practice.
Maybe sometimes it's just stopping long enough to realize:
I am here.
& this is my life.
& somehow, despite everything, there is still so much to love.
I love this world.
